Audi RS4 Avant Edition 25 Years, Two Years On: The Last Pure-Combustion RS4
Audi's 250-car RS4 anniversary wagon of 2024 made 470 PS from a V6. Its successor, the 2026 RS5 Avant, is a 639-PS plug-in hybrid.

In May 2024 Audi marked 25 years of the RS4 with the RS4 Avant edition 25 years, a 250-car special for Europe. It turned out to be the send-off for the wagon as a pure combustion car. Its successor arrived in February 2026 with a different name and a plug.
The 2024 story
According to Audi, the edition's 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 made 470 PS (464 hp) and 600 Nm, 20 PS more than the regular RS4 Avant, for 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and 300 km/h. The chassis work went deeper than the power: manually adjustable coilovers, a lower ride height, more negative camber, a rigidly mounted rear subframe and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires. Imola Yellow paint recalled the original RS4. Prices started at €142,905.
What happened next
Audi revealed the RS5 sedan and RS5 Avant on February 19, 2026, as the successor to the RS4, Carwow Germany reported. The new car pairs a 510-PS version of the 2.9-liter V6 with a 177-PS electric motor for 639 PS and up to 825 Nm. A 25.9-kWh battery gives 84 km of electric range. In Germany the RS5 Avant starts at €107,850, with deliveries in Europe expected from summer 2026.

The edition 25 years was Audi's last chance to sell a light, mechanical RS4, and it charged accordingly. The RS5 Avant is far more powerful, but the battery and motor that make it so also make it a heavier, different kind of car. For collectors, the 250 yellow wagons now mark the end of an era rather than an anniversary.
