Summer has arrived, and Tesla’s Dog Mode, typically a boon for owners needing to briefly leave their pets in the car, has hit a snag with the automaker’s latest firmware update. A Reddit post by a Tesla Model Y owner reveals that their Dog Mode malfunctioned on a scorching day.

The owner left their dog in the car with Dog Mode activated, setting the cabin at a cool 66°F while it was 86°F outside. However, after just 10 minutes, a notification indicated a «Problem with Dog Mode.» Rushing back, the owner found the cabin had heated up to 84°F despite the intended climate control.

To compound matters, the owner noted issues with their air conditioning system. Tesla acknowledged a firmware glitch affecting Dog Mode in version 2024.20.1, part of the recent software update touted for enhancing headlights, HVAC, and gaming features. However, this particular issue seems more like a setback than an improvement.

While not all users are affected—some report no issues post-update—Tesla advised against using Dog Mode until the problem is resolved in a subsequent firmware release. For dog owners, it’s prudent to abstain from utilizing this feature until the next update addresses the issue.
