Volvo’s Latest EV Lineup: New Names & Enhanced Power

Volvo introduces the EX40 and EC40, replacing the «Recharge» series, with a performance upgrade to 436 hp, alongside efficiency improvements in hybrid engines.

Volvo is refining its extensive model range for better clarity. The brand is removing the «Recharge» moniker from its electric and hybrid models. Now, the electric XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge transition to EX40 and EC40, aligning with Volvo’s electric lineup like the EX30 and EX90, and the EM90 exclusive to China. Hybrid models will now feature «T6» or «T8» to denote power output, a shift from their previous use for gas models, as Volvo aims for a fully electric range by 2030.

The newly named EX40 and EC40 receive a performance boost with an optional Performance Software Pack in certain markets, elevating power to 436 hp for quicker acceleration. The pack is available for new orders and existing 2024 models of the XC40 and C40.

Volvo also focuses on improving its internal combustion engine models. The XC60 and XC90 are updated with a more efficient B5 mild-hybrid engine, reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Additionally, following the success of the XC60 Black Edition, Volvo introduces a Black Edition for the XC40, EX40, and C40, featuring black aesthetics and interiors.

Volvo is committed to expanding its EV lineup as part of its goal to become fully electric by the decade’s end, despite electric vehicles currently making up 16% of its sales. The company achieved a record 708,716 car sales in the last year, with 113,419 being EVs, marking a 70% increase from the previous year.
