Ford's EV sales rose 61% in Q2 2024. In Q2 2026 they fell 41% to 9,746, the F-150 Lightning was gone, and the Maverick Hybrid set a record.

In July 2024 Ford reported a strong second quarter for electrified vehicles: EV sales up 61.4% and hybrids at a quarterly record. Two years later the two halves of that story have gone in opposite directions.
The 2024 story
Ford sold 23,957 EVs in the U.S. in Q2 2024. The Mustang Mach-E accounted for 12,645, the F-150 Lightning for 7,902 and the E-Transit van for 3,410. Hybrid sales rose 55.6% to 53,822, led by pickups.
What happened next
In Q2 2026 Ford's U.S. EV sales were 9,746, down about 41% from a year earlier, Ford Authority reported. The Mach-E sold 7,032, the F-150 Lightning 2,421 and the E-Transit 293. Lightning production ended in late 2025; Ford plans to replace it with an extended-range electric truck.
Hybrids did better. The Maverick Hybrid set a Q2 record of 29,457 units, up 19.3%, according to Ford's Q2 2026 sales release. Ford's total U.S. sales fell 10% to 549,200, which Ford put down to model phase-outs and lower rental sales.

Our read
The 2024 EV growth came from a low base, and it did not last. Ford's buyers have voted for hybrids instead, and Ford has followed them: the Lightning is gone and its replacement will carry a gas generator. The quarter we covered in 2024 now looks like the peak of Ford's first EV push, not the start of a trend.
