In June 2024 the German tuner Novitec gave the Ferrari 296 GTS its treatment: more power, carbon-fiber parts, larger wheels and a lower ride. Ten months later, Ferrari answered with a factory car that is more powerful than the tuned one.
The 2024 story
Novitec raised the plug-in hybrid's output from 830 cv to 868 cv, Auto.it reported. All of the gain came from the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, through reworked turbocharger inlets and a high-performance exhaust with 100-cell catalytic converters; the electric motor was left alone. Novitec added forged NF10 wheels made with Vossen, 21 inches at the front and 22 at the rear, springs that lower the car by 35 mm, and carbon-fiber aero parts.
What happened next
On April 29, 2025, Ferrari introduced the 296 Speciale and its open version, the 296 Speciale A. According to Ferrari, the Speciale A makes 880 cv, 50 more than the 296 GTS and a record for a rear-wheel-drive production Ferrari. The V6 alone delivers 700 cv. The car is more than 50 kg lighter than the GTS, sits 5 mm lower and reaches 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds.

Our read
Hybrid supercars leave tuners less room than the old turbo cars did: the electric side is off limits, and the factory keeps a margin of its own. Ferrari used that margin within a year. What Novitec still sells that Ferrari does not is the look, from the wheels to the ride height, and that is now the main reason to buy a tuned 296.
