Toyota’s new Tacoma Hybrid, starting at $47,795, offers enhanced power with 326 hp and improved fuel efficiency, setting a new standard in the mid-size truck segment.

Toyota has introduced a hybrid version of the Tacoma, marking a significant milestone as it is the first mid-size hybrid truck in North America. This addition to the Tacoma lineup underscores Toyota’s commitment to expanding its hybrid offerings across different vehicle segments.

The Tacoma’s hybrid model, equipped with the i-Force Max hybrid powertrain, starts with the TRD Pro trim at an MSRP of $47,795, which includes a $1,495 destination charge. This pricing positions the hybrid TRD Pro as the more expensive option compared to its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, primarily due to the additional power and efficiency it offers.

The i-Force Max hybrid system significantly boosts the Tacoma’s performance, delivering 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. This is a notable increase over the non-hybrid engines, which produce up to 278 horsepower. The hybrid system not only enhances power but also improves torque delivery and fuel efficiency, with the TRD Sport and Off-Road hybrid models achieving up to 22 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway.

Pricing for the hybrid continues to reflect its premium positioning across other trims such as the Limited, Trailhunter, and the exclusively hybrid TRD Pro models, with costs ranging from $53,595 to $65,395. The top-tier TRD Pro hybrid is notably the most expensive variant in the Tacoma lineup, costing about twice as much as the entry-level SR XtraCab 4×2, priced at $32,995.

The introduction of the Tacoma hybrid is not just a strategic expansion for Toyota but also a significant enhancement for truck enthusiasts looking for a more powerful, efficient, and environmentally friendly option in the mid-size truck segment.
