Explore the all-new 2025 Toyota 4Runner, blending advanced technology with rugged capability, setting new standards for off-road adventure and luxury.

The undeniable instant name recognition that the 4Runner has built over the past four decades speaks volumes about its legacy. This legend has firmly established itself as a North American off-road icon, always ready to tackle any tough terrain that comes its way. The all-new 2025 Toyota 4Runner remains faithful to its original concept as an extremely capable, dynamic, and durable off-roader, promising to continue offering owners a gateway to greater adventures. The new generation brings a bold new look, incorporates new technology, premium materials, various options, and enhanced safety features. Indeed, the all-new sixth-generation 4Runner sets a higher standard in terms of go-anywhere capability and high-end refinement. Scheduled for production at Toyota Motor Corporation’s Tahara plant in Japan, the 2025 4Runner is expected to arrive in the U.S. in the fall of 2024.

Dave Christ, Toyota group vice president and general manager, mentioned that the all-new 4Runner showcases incredible versatility and capability, complementing the company’s truck family story well. Over 3 million units have been sold in the 40 years since its release, and this sixth-generation model introduces a cool new look and impressive features while retaining the rugged style and capability that customers admire in this adventure icon.

Constructed from the ground up, the 4Runner is based on Toyota’s robust TNGA-F global truck platform, which it shares with Tacoma, Land Cruiser, Tundra, and Sequoia. This platform features a high-strength boxed steel-ladder frame and includes a multi-link coil rear and double wishbone front suspension. The new platform not only adds strength but also enhances the vehicle’s ride comfort and on-road behavior. Even passengers in the optional third row can feel the benefits of this new platform. Combined with the powerful i-FORCE MAX powertrain, the enhanced frame enables the 4Runner to tow up to 6,000 pounds.

The design of the legendary 4Runner was approached with the goal of identifying its unique and memorable aspects linked to fun and outdoor recreation, according to Calty President Kevin Hunter. Inspired by Baja desert racing, its high lift, lean body, big tires, and rugged athleticism underline the core of 4Runner’s go-anywhere purpose. The Michigan-based CALTY design team led the design efforts of the all-new 4Runner, drawing inspiration from the past while focusing on the future. The design shares a family resemblance with the Tacoma yet remains distinct, with both drawing inspiration from the desert racing scene and featuring a rugged-with-a-purpose appearance. In a homage to the first and second generations of 4Runners, designers reintroduced the legacy «wrap over» quarter glass, and the popular roll-down rear window continues to be a key part of the vehicle’s DNA.

The next chapter of 4Runner introduces two powerful and efficient turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder powertrains, including the i-FORCE engine with 278 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain is also available, combining the turbocharged engine with a 48-hp electric motor for a total system output of up to 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful powertrain ever offered on the 4Runner.

4Runner’s synonymous association with rugged capability is further enhanced in its latest iteration. The newly available Stabilizer Bar Disconnect Mechanism and up to 32-degree approach and 24-degree departure angles are just a few features that raise its capability. The Multi-Terrain Monitor system and the new, quieter CRAWL Control function add to the vehicle’s off-road prowess. With options ranging from 2WD, part-time 4WD to full-time 4WD, and a suite of other off-road features, the 4Runner is more equipped than ever for adventure.

The expansion of the 4Runner’s grade offerings provides customers with a wide range of choices. From the added Trailhunter grade, designed for overlanders, to the first-ever Platinum grade, offering a luxury experience, the 2025 4Runner caters to a diverse audience. With the introduction of Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 as a standard feature across all models, the latest technology and safety systems are at the forefront, ensuring that the all-new 4Runner is not just about rugged capability but also about providing a safe, comfortable, and connected driving experience.
