Anticipated Ford Puma EV: Final Tests Before Unveiling
Ford’s Puma lineup refresh lacks the 197 hp engine and the awaited Puma EV, set for a reveal following its final winter tests, featuring unique design tweaks.
The refreshed Ford Puma lineup, revealed in February, saw the absence of the previously available 197 hp turbocharged 1.5-liter engine from the Puma ST, leaving the lineup led by a 168 hp 1.0-liter hybrid variant. Notably missing was the much-anticipated Puma EV, an addition that Ford had hinted at but wasn’t part of the initial lineup launched in Europe in 2019.
With the facelift now public, speculation about the electric Puma’s debut is mounting, especially with recent spy shots capturing the EV model undergoing winter testing. These images suggest that design tweaks from the combustion models, like new headlight graphics, will carry over to the electric variant, along with unique features such as distinct wheels and a modified front section.
Despite the camouflage, the electric Puma’s design hints are visible, including a closed-off grille indicative of its EV nature, which reduces cooling needs compared to its ICE counterparts. The facelifted models feature a relocated Ford badge, now on the grille, a change expected to be mirrored in the EV version.
The interior is set for an upgrade as well, with a 12.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch touchscreen display equipped with SYNC4 technology. Interestingly, the electric Puma, along with the Tourneo and Transit Courier vans, shares a common platform, suggesting the possibility of the Puma EV utilizing a similar 134 hp powertrain as found in the electric vans.
