BMW X3 Two Years On: The Electric iX3 Now Costs Less Than an X3 M50

When BMW revealed the new X3 in June 2024, the bigger news was a car that came later: the electric iX3 on the Neue Klasse platform. Two years on, the iX3 is about to reach American buyers, and its price puts it inside the X3 range.
The 2024 story
The fourth-generation X3 kept its 112.8-inch wheelbase and moved its styling closer to the X1. The 30 xDrive with a 255-hp 2.0-liter turbo four started at $50,675 with destination, and the M50 with a 393-hp six at $65,275, Motor Authority reported. The U.S. lineup had no plug-in hybrid.
What happened next
BMW revealed the Neue Klasse iX3 in September 2025. In Europe it passed 50,000 orders by March 2026, Electrek reported. For the U.S., the 2027 iX3 50 xDrive starts at $61,500 plus $1,350 destination, with 463 hp and an EPA range of up to 434 miles; first deliveries were planned for the end of September 2026, according to Motoring Research.

Our read
The iX3 lands between the two gas X3s on price while out-powering both, and its range removes the usual reason to hesitate. BMW sells both cars side by side, so the customer decides; but at these prices the electric car is the better-equipped default, and the X3 M50 becomes the one that needs explaining.
