Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E owners can now use Tesla Superchargers, enhancing EV charging infrastructure across the U.S. and Canada.

In a significant development for electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and adoption, Ford has announced that its F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E retail customers in the U.S. and Canada are now the first among non-Tesla automaker clientele to have access to Tesla Superchargers. This groundbreaking move addresses a major concern in the EV market: the availability of fast-charging stations.

A Cox Automotive Consumer Sentiment Study highlighted that, aside from price, the scarcity of charging options is a primary barrier to EV purchases. As electric vehicles become more affordable, enhancing the fast-charging infrastructure is pivotal for prospective buyers leaning towards EVs. With over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers now accessible, Ford has effectively more than doubled the number of reliable DC fast charging stations available to its customers through the BlueOval™ Charge Network.

To express gratitude and encourage EV adoption, Ford is offering the Fast Charging Adapter at no cost to new and existing customers of its BlueOval™ Charge Network until June 30, 2024. This adapter is essential for utilizing the upgraded Tesla Superchargers, marking Ford retail EV customers as pioneers in the industry for such an opportunity.

Retail customers have until the mentioned deadline to claim their complimentary adapter. Afterward, it will be available for purchase at $230, which includes estimated tax and shipping. Ford Pro commercial customers are not left out; they will be contacted by mail or through their Ford Pro account manager this Spring to secure their adapter.

The integration with Tesla Superchargers is made seamless through the FordPass App or the upcoming Public Charge feature on the vehicle’s touchscreen, providing a unified payment solution and eliminating the need for onsite payment. Furthermore, the system supports Plug & Charge functionality, simplifying the charging process to merely plugging in the vehicle, with all charging sessions conveniently managed via FordPass.

Looking ahead, Ford aims to further streamline the EV charging experience by integrating the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector into its next-generation electric vehicles. This move will negate the need for an adapter to access Tesla Superchargers, marking another step towards making EV ownership as hassle-free as possible.

Ford's initiative not only expands the charging network for its customers but also sets a precedent in the automotive industry for collaboration and shared infrastructure use, significantly contributing to the growth and viability of electric vehicles.
