Delivery Halt for 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Due to Quality Concerns
The 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning is under a stop-sale since Feb 9, causing weeks of delivery delays.
Sales of the Ford F-150 Lightning have been experiencing a slowdown, and now, delivery schedules are being affected. The 2024 model, in particular, is grappling with an extended stop-sale order that has been in place since February 9, leading to significant delivery delays.
This halt is due to quality concerns, with Ford taking extra time to ensure these electric trucks meet their high standards before reaching customers. This proactive approach aims to prevent the need for future recalls, thereby saving customers both time and worry.
As a result, numerous completed 2024 F-150 Lightning trucks are currently waiting at Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan, while their gas-powered counterparts continue to be delivered without interruption.
The specific reasons behind the F-150 Lightning’s quality issues have not been disclosed by Ford. However, Emma Bergg, a spokesperson for Ford, indicated to The Detroit News that the company is working diligently on quality checks and anticipates an increase in shipments in the near future.
Bergg emphasized that these launch quality checks are crucial for ensuring the trucks adhere to Ford’s stringent quality criteria and ultimately satisfy customers. While these checks are essential for maintaining high quality and avoiding costly recalls and repairs, they have also contributed to delays in the vehicle’s rollout. For instance, quality checks for the new Ford Super Duty trucks reportedly cost Ford around $1 billion.
Moreover, the F-150 Lightning is facing other challenges, including a significant drop in demand, leading to a halved production rate from 3,200 to just 1,600 units per week.
Despite these hurdles, the 2024 F-150 Lightning remains eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit, which could help mitigate the impact of its price range, which spans from $54,995 to $84,995.
Updates will follow as more information becomes available on the production rates and the specific issues affecting the F-150 Lightning.
