Discover the Koenigsegg Agera RS Chimera: Fusion of Hypercar Technologies
Explore the Koenigsegg Agera RS Chimera, blending the best from Agera RS, CC850, and Jesko, creating a hypercar marvel with 1,600 horsepower capability.
The term «chimera» typically refers to a mythical creature combining traits from various animals. In the automotive world, it’s also the moniker for Koenigsegg’s latest creation, the Agera RS Chimera. This bespoke vehicle melds technologies from several of Koenigsegg’s past marvels—the decade-old record-breaking Agera RS, the innovative CC850 featuring the Engage Shift System (ESS), and the powerhouse Jesko, which recently set new acceleration benchmarks. Elements from the remarkable Regera also make an appearance.
Commissioned by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, a renowned ’Egg collector, the Chimera started as a standard Agera RS before becoming a testbed for the ESS seen in the CC850. With larger Jesko turbos, it delivers up to 1,600 horsepower on E85 fuel, ensuring formidable performance even on regular gasoline.
Over three years, the development process transformed the Chimera, necessitating extensive modifications such as relocating the battery, revising powertrain mounts, updating software, and integrating new electronics. Ben Sulayem’s insistence on adding paddle shifters akin to those in the Jesko Absolut and Jesko Attack further raised the complexity. Suspension components were also redesigned, incorporating elements from both the Jesko and the Regera.
Christian von Koenigsegg emphasizes that the Chimera is a unique creation, representing a blend of cutting-edge and established technologies that required immense effort to synchronize. Although some refinements, like adjusting the clutch pedal’s bite point, are ongoing, the Chimera stands as a testament to Koenigsegg’s engineering prowess.
As the world’s best automotive spectacles shift to America, with the Geneva Motor Show losing its premier status, the Chimera symbolizes Koenigsegg’s ongoing quest for automotive excellence.
