Introducing the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck: Powertrain and Design Unveiled
Ford’s F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, featuring over 1,400 hp and advanced aerodynamics, will compete at Pikes Peak on June 23.
Following a preview earlier this year, Ford has unveiled the powertrain details and livery for the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, set to compete at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 23.
The SuperTruck is equipped with a tri-motor powertrain similar to last year’s SuperVan 4.2. It features STARD UHP six-phase motors that generate over 1,400 hp (1,044 kW / 1,419 PS) powered by «Ultra-High Performance Li-Polymer NMC cells.»
The truck’s design is highly aerodynamic, featuring a triple-element front wing, hood ducts, headlight ducts, front dive-planes, side diffusers, a massive rear wing, streamlined bodywork, and a large rear diffuser. These enhancements allow the truck to generate 6,000 lbs (2,722 kg) of downforce at 150 mph (241 km/h).
Additional highlights include carbon ceramic brakes, forged magnesium wheels with Pirelli P-Zero tires, a custom in-board suspension system, and a carbon-clad cockpit with a single seat and various displays.
Pikes Peak veteran Romain Dumas will drive the SuperTruck on the 12.5-mile (20.1 km) course. Dumas expressed excitement about the vehicle’s performance during testing and hopes for favorable weather conditions to achieve a remarkable performance.
