Ford is recalling 2024 Mustangs due to a loose hydraulic clutch line that may cause fires. Owners received notices via the FordPass app. If you own a 2024 Mustang with a manual gearbox, contact your dealer for inspection.

Ford is currently notifying Mustang owners about a new recall due to a potential safety issue. Although the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not yet released full details, initial reports suggest that a loose clutch line might be the cause, with at least one Mustang Dark Horse reportedly catching fire as a result.

Several owners have received recall notices via the FordPass mobile app, indicating that a «hydraulic clutch pressure line may not be properly retained to a locating stud on the dash panel.» If not properly secured, the line could come into contact with the exhaust, posing a significant risk. The exhaust can get extremely hot and may melt components that touch it. Ford’s message, shared on the Mustang7g forums, warns that «if leaked hydraulic fluid accumulates near a sufficiently hot surface, you may observe smoke and experience an under-hood fire.» This appears to be the cause of a fire experienced by at least one Mustang Dark Horse owner.

In April, this owner experienced a stuck clutch pedal while driving. Despite attempts to fix it, the pedal remained depressed. After pulling over and opening the hood, he found smoke and fire near the clutch area.

As of now, neither the NHTSA nor Ford has made official recall documents available to the public. Therefore, the number of vehicles affected and the initial cause of the issue remain unclear. However, Ford plans to inspect and repair the affected vehicles as necessary.

Owners of 2024 Mustangs with manual gearboxes are advised to contact their local dealer to schedule an inspection, as the issue may not be apparent until it manifests.
