The G80 EV Magma Concept, debuting in Beijing, sports a new design and enhanced performance with 365 hp and advanced aerodynamics, signaling Genesis’s electric ambitions.

Genesis has unveiled the G80 EV Magma Concept at the Beijing Motor Show, a dynamic and sporty iteration of the Electrified G80 sedan. This new concept builds on the momentum of the recently introduced GV60 Magma at the New York Auto Show, showcasing Genesis’s expanding focus on high-performance electric vehicles.

The G80 EV Magma, finished in Acme Blue—a hue unique to the Chinese market and inspired by the vibrant blue of high-temperature flames—sports several aggressive design modifications. These include a new mesh-pattern grille in black, replacing the traditional polished grille for a more athletic look, and lowered suspension for a more aggressive stance. Additionally, the car features flared fenders and 21-inch staggered wheels with a distinctive blue-painted ring to enhance aerodynamics.

At the rear, the G80 EV Magma is equipped with a new bumper integrating a fog lamp reminiscent of racing aesthetics, alongside a functional ducktail spoiler and diffuser that improve airflow. Despite these extensive aesthetic enhancements, Genesis has not specified any performance upgrades. It is likely, however, that the concept car uses the same dual electric motor setup as the standard Electrified G80, which delivers 365 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque.

The G80 EV Magma’s handling and drivability are expected to be sharper thanks to suspension tuning and upgraded ventilated brakes at both the front and rear. Although Genesis has not revealed images of the interior, it is described as featuring a mix of sporty Alcantara and high-end quilted leather with carbon fiber accents, emphasizing the car’s luxury sports orientation.

SangYup Lee, Head of Genesis Global Design, emphasized that the G80 EV Magma Concept showcases the brand’s cutting-edge design and engineering prowess, tailored to meet the preferences of Chinese consumers. While the concept hints at future production possibilities, competing against models like the BMW i5 M60, there is also potential for incorporating advanced technology from other high-performance models like the Ioniq 5 N.

This concept not only broadens Genesis’s electric vehicle portfolio but also reinforces its commitment to meeting diverse market needs with innovative and appealing design solutions.
