Ford Launches Gen 4 Coyote V8 Engines Celebrating 60 Years of Mustang
Ford introduces the latest Coyote V8 crate engines, offering up to 480 hp for Mustang enthusiasts, alongside control packs shipping this summer.
As part of the 60th anniversary celebrations for the Mustang, Ford has introduced the latest generation of Coyote V8 crate engines and control packs, set to start shipping this summer. Originating from the 2011 Mustang GT, these Gen 4 engines have undergone substantial refinements over the past decade to maintain their competitive edge, making them suitable even for high-performance applications like the new Dark Horse Mustang or classic Fox Body modifications.
Ford is offering these engines in two configurations to cater to different installation needs: a more robust dual throttle body setup and a simpler single throttle body version. The dual throttle body configuration features two 80 mm throttle bodies and delivers 480 horsepower at 7,150 rpm and 415 lb-ft of torque at 4,900 rpm. The single throttle body setup, known as the Gen4X, produces 460 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 420 lb-ft of torque at 4,600 rpm, ideal for those who may not require the full power of the dual setup.
These engines are designed with flexibility in mind, allowing customers to fit either a manual flywheel or an automatic flexplate depending on their transmission choice—a decision that can be revised as their project evolves. Control packs necessary to operate these engines will be available from Ford Performance this summer, with specific packs tailored to each engine model.
In addition to these, Ford has also highlighted other recent additions to their crate engine lineup, including the Aluminator and the Megazilla engines. The Aluminator is closely related to the Gen 4 engines but includes enhancements such as a forged steel crankshaft, Mahle Hard Anodized forged pistons, and Manley H-beam connecting rods, priced at around $15,000. It is available in both naturally aspirated and forced induction-ready versions.
The Megazilla, a 7.3-liter V8 that outputs 615 horsepower and 638 lb-ft of torque without forced induction, went on sale recently with a price tag of $22,995. This engine promises extraordinary power, especially if augmented with turbochargers or a supercharger.
These new and powerful options reinforce Ford’s commitment to providing high-performance parts for car enthusiasts and builders, catering to a range of projects and budgets. Pricing and further details about the new Coyote V8 configurations will be announced by Ford in the near future.
