Fisker’s Ocean, despite its horsepower edge, falls short in a series of races against the Tesla Model Y, highlighting challenges for the EV startup.

Fisker is facing significant challenges, further compounded by the recent cessation of negotiations with a key automaker. Adding to their difficulties, a new video showcasing the all-electric Ocean in a race against the Tesla Model Y Performance does little to boost the electric vehicle startup’s image.

In recent times, the Fisker Ocean has been at the receiving end of several harsh critiques, and there are mounting concerns about the automaker’s financial stability. CarWow recently tested the electric SUV by pitting it against its closest competitor. Despite its valiant effort and superior horsepower, the Fisker failed to outpace the Model Y.

On paper, the Ocean’s specs, including 564 hp and 545 lb-ft (740 Nm) of torque (with the Boost function), suggest it might have an advantage over the Tesla. However, the Model Y Performance, with an effective horsepower of over 500 hp when considering its wheel-rated 456 hp and 497 lb-ft (674 Nm) of torque, still manages to come out on top.

In three separate standing-start drag races, the Tesla consistently emerged victorious, with its best quarter-mile time at 12.4 seconds, compared to the Fisker’s 12.8 seconds.

Moreover, in a rolling start race over half a mile and a braking test, the Model Y continued to outperform the Ocean. A significant factor in the Tesla’s dominance in these tests is its lighter weight, at approximately 1,997 kg (4,402 lbs), compared to the Fisker’s heftier 2,434 kg (5,366 lbs).
