The Fisker Ocean marks a significant stride in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, heralding Fisker Inc.’s return to the automotive scene with an all-electric SUV that blends innovative design, performance, and sustainability. Following the unveiling at the 2022 LA Auto Show, the Ocean has garnered significant attention, amassing over 63,000 total orders by November of the same year. The first delivery of the Ocean took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, in May 2023, with Fisker delivering its first batch of 22 vehicles to customers in the United States by June 2023.

The Fisker Ocean is available in several trims, including the One, Extreme, Ultra, and Sport, each offering varying levels of performance and range. The top-tier models, One and Extreme, boast an all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain, a peak power output of 468 hp, and a peak torque of 696 Nm, propelling the SUV from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.0 seconds with Boost Mode activated. These models also impress with their range, offering up to 579 km (360 miles) under EPA testing and up to 708 km (440 miles) under WLTP standards, supported by their lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide batteries.

The Ocean distinguishes itself with unique features aimed at redefining the EV experience. The prototype model reviewed, known as the Ocean One, was equipped with dual electric motors and offered an impressive 550 horsepower, achieving 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds. Despite its formidable performance, the vehicle prioritizes comfort, with a soft ride that maintains good body control without feeling heavy. The Ocean’s quirkiness extends beyond its performance, featuring unconventional design choices like a non-existent glovebox, fully retractable windows including the tailgate and rear quarter glass, and a rotating infotainment display. The interior showcases innovative storage solutions and amenities like an airplane-style meal tray, emphasizing Fisker’s commitment to challenging conventional automotive designs and enhancing passenger comfort.

Sustainability is a core principle of the Fisker Ocean, with the company taking significant steps to minimize the vehicle’s environmental impact. This commitment is evident in the extensive use of recycled materials within the cabin and the vehicle’s ability to guide drivers to charging stations offering green electricity. Moreover, Fisker has been transparent about the carbon emissions involved in the Ocean’s production, reflecting a broader strategy to embrace eco-conscious practices across its operations and product lineup.

The Fisker Ocean’s journey from concept to customer delivery encapsulates a blend of innovation, performance, and a strong emphasis on sustainability, setting a compelling precedent for the future of electric mobility.
