Elon Musk hints at a 2025 delivery for the Tesla Roadster, teasing potential flight and unprecedented sub-1-second 0-60 mph acceleration.

In a flurry of posts on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter), Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk has been making some striking declarations about the Tesla Roadster, including a commitment that deliveries will begin in 2025. This timeline aligns with Musk’s recent announcement that the electric sports car is slated to start production this year. While the delivery schedule appears feasible, Musk intriguingly left open the possibility of the Roadster achieving flight, echoing a statement he made in 2019.

Initially, when the Roadster was unveiled, Musk boasted it would achieve 0-60 mph in less than two seconds, a benchmark that seemed extraordinary until other car manufacturers started reaching or surpassing it. In response, Tesla has upped the ante with a new assertion of achieving 0-60 in under one second, a feat confirmed as possible by Rimac’s engineers, albeit one that might necessitate some form of physical reinforcement for passengers.

Musk initiated the buzz by announcing that Tesla has «significantly raised the bar for the new Tesla Roadster,» proclaiming it a unique vehicle that will be co-developed with SpaceX. This collaboration likely hints at the previously mentioned SpaceX package, which now promises to enable sub-one-second 0-60 mph accelerations, a feature Musk intriguingly notes as «the least interesting part» of the Roadster.

Musk is setting expectations high, suggesting the Roadster could deliver «the most mind-blowing product demo of all time.» He also confirmed the completion of the production design, with a reveal scheduled for «end of year» and initial deliveries targeted for 2025.

Given Tesla’s history of shifting timelines, particularly concerning product launches, another delay wouldn’t be entirely unexpected. However, the successful rollout of the Model 3 and the commencement of Cybertruck deliveries suggest Tesla might now have more bandwidth to concentrate on the Roadster’s development, potentially minimizing further delays and ensuring the focus remains on delivering this groundbreaking vehicle.
