Volkswagen has unveiled the facelifted Golf for the European market, marking a significant milestone with the introduction of the «Edition 50» special edition, commemorating half a century since the hatchback's original debut.

This special model tops the regular lineup, attracting attention not only for its unique features but also for highlighting the range’s updated pricing, which now starts from €27,180 (approximately $29,300).

Volkswagen «Edition 50» Golf, based on the high-end Style trim, boasts several exclusive elements celebrating this landmark anniversary. Among these are «50» badges on the B-pillars, subtle «Edition 50» emblems on the side sills and steering wheel, 18-inch Leeds alloy wheels, a LED strip on the grille, and tinted rear glass. The interior is equally impressive, featuring brushed stainless steel pedals and a black headliner.

Standard on this edition is the 12.9-inch Discover infotainment system complete with navigation, keyless access, IDA voice assistant integrated with ChatGPT, an anti-theft alarm, and a driving profile selection feature. An optional Plus package offers enhancements like a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, and IQ.Light matrix LED headlights for those desiring even more luxury and convenience.

Aside from the anniversary edition, VW has detailed the full lineup for the new Golf, including the base model, the mid-level Life, and the premium Style variant. The entry-level Golf comes equipped with 15-inch steel wheels but doesn’t skimp on modern necessities such as LED headlights and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.

The launch powertrains feature a mix of non-electrified and mild-hybrid options, including the 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI engines paired with a six-speed manual transmission, as well as the 1.0 eTSI and 1.5 eTSI engines coupled with a seven-speed DSG. The mild-hybrid variants, in particular, offer enhanced efficiency and performance thanks to a 48 Volt system, variable turbine geometry turbocharging, and Active Cylinder Management technology.

VW has also hinted at future expansions to the Golf range, including improved plug-in hybrids for increased zero-emission driving and a final iteration of the iconic turbodiesel engine before its retirement. Enthusiasts can also anticipate the local launches of the performance-oriented Golf GTI and the forthcoming Golf R.

With its pre-order now open in European markets, the facelifted Golf starts at €27,180 for the hatchback and €28,280 for the Golf Variant in Germany, reflecting a price increase attributed to inflation and enhanced features. The «Edition 50», exclusively available with the more potent 1.5-liter engines, starts from €36,820.

Having sold over 37 million units since its 1974 inception, the VW Golf remains one of the most successful automotive nameplates globally, even as it faces stiff competition from the now more popular Tiguan SUV. This latest launch ensures the Golf’s legacy continues, blending tradition with modern innovation and performance.
