Stellantis recalls over 1.16 million vehicles, including models from Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, and Ram, due to rearview camera software issues. Updates are being applied over-the-air to resolve the problem.

Stellantis has faced numerous challenges this year, including recalls for issues ranging from Jeep wheels potentially falling off to faulty ABS software in Dodge and Ram trucks. The latest announcement, however, is the most significant, with over 1.16 million vehicles being recalled due to rearview camera problems.

This recall primarily affects vehicles in North America, including models from Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, and Ram. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that the issue is related to buggy software that can prevent rearview camera images from displaying properly. This not only causes inconvenience for drivers relying on these cameras for parking but also violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), which mandate operational reverse cameras.

Affected Models Include:

— Chrysler: 2021–2023 Pacifica

— Dodge: 2021–2022 Durango

— Jeep: 2022–2023 Compass, Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, and 2021–2023 Grand Cherokee

— Ram: 2022 1500, 2500, 3500 trucks, and 2022–2023 Promaster vans.

Fortunately, Stellantis can address this issue with over-the-air software updates. According to the company, more than 735,000 vehicles have already received the update, with prompts displayed on the vehicles’ infotainment screens to facilitate the download.

In a separate recall notice, Stellantis has also recalled a single 2022 Ram 1500 Classic due to a hardware issue similar to an April recall. The problem involves a defective wiring harness that could short circuit, preventing the rear-view image from being displayed.

Owners of affected vehicles can check their vehicle identification number (VIN) on NHTSA.gov or contact their local dealer for more information.
