Hyundai has revealed its new A-segment electric vehicle, the Inster, set to debut at the Busan International Mobility Show in late June.

Hyundai has teased its first A-segment subcompact electric vehicle, the Inster, ahead of its debut at Korea’s Busan International Mobility Show in late June.

The Inster is heavily based on the Korea-exclusive Casper and will be marketed as the Casper Electric in Korea, while globally it will be known as the Inster. According to Hyundai, the name combines ’intimate’ and ’innovative’ and the company claims the new EV will «set new standards in terms of driving range, technology, and safety features, redefining what buyers can expect from a vehicle in this class.»

Visually, the Inster shares much of its design with the Casper, featuring circular LED daytime running lights and pixel-graphic turn signals. The teasers suggest the Inster might be slightly larger than the Casper. The vehicle’s charging port is located at the front, and it sits on unique four-spoke wheels. The design also includes blacked-out fenders and roof rails.

Changes to the rear of the Inster include redesigned LED taillights with a simpler pixel design, similar to those on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, and a prominent ’Inster’ badge on the tailgate.

While Hyundai hasn’t released interior images of the Inster, spy shots indicate it will borrow heavily from the Casper, featuring a digital instrument cluster, a large central infotainment screen, and a three-spoke steering wheel.

Reports suggest Hyundai aims to price the Inster below €20,000 (~$21,500), making it the brand’s most affordable EV. The Inster will use an integrated drive module from BorgWarner, though specific power details and information about the battery pack and driving range have yet to be disclosed.
