A leaked document details updates for the 2025 Rivian R1T and R1S, including a new 92.5 kWh LFP battery, continued use of CCS ports, and design tweaks. Full reveal expected June 27.

A comprehensive document certifying the 2025 Rivian R1T and R1S in the U.S. has leaked online, revealing several updates to these flagship models.

One of the most notable changes involves the battery pack for the Standard Range models. The capacity of the standard pack has been reduced from 105.9 kWh to 92.5 kWh, transitioning to a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. This has also led to a decrease in weight from 796 kg (1,754 lbs) to 727 kg (1,602 lbs).

Real-world range figures are pending EPA testing for the 2025 R1T and R1S models. However, Rivian claims that the R1S and R1T Dual Standard models with 20-inch wheels can achieve 380 miles (612 km) in the city and 322 miles (518 km) on the highway.

The document also states that the 2025 R1 supports 210 kW fast charging, consistent with the previous model. According to Rivian Forums, the 2025 R1T and R1S will continue using CCS ports. Despite Rivian’s announcement that future R1 models will feature the NACS plug starting in 2025, it appears this change may be delayed until the 2026 model year. Rivian models can currently access the Tesla Supercharger network using a provided NACS adapter.

Other changes include the discontinuation of the 21-inch wheel option, leaving only 20-inch and 22-inch options. The 22-inch wheels will be available in ‘Performance’ and ‘Aero’ versions. Additionally, the 2025 models will come standard with heat pumps, and the AC compressor has been relocated to improve NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) performance.

Photos of a 2025 Rivian R1S included in the document confirm that the prototypes seen earlier this year were indeed 2025 models. Despite the colorful camouflage, there appear to be no significant exterior design changes.

The launch of the updated 2025 R1T and R1S could coincide with Rivian’s investor day on June 27.
