Jeep announces the Gladiator 4xe plug-in hybrid for next year, featuring the popular Tuscadero paint finish, alongside expected high-performance specs and advanced features.

Jeep enthusiasts were excited yesterday with the news that the popular Tuscadero paint option, reintroduced this year to the Jeep Wrangler, will now also be available on the Gladiator pickup for the first time. Their excitement only grew with the announcement that the Jeep Gladiator 4xe plug-in hybrid is set to launch next year. This update came via LinkedIn posts from Jeep’s global CEO, Antonio Filosa, and its North American head, Bill Peffer.

While no specific release date was shared, and the available colors are still unknown, the Gladiator 4xe is expected to share features with the hybrid Wrangler. The Wrangler 4xe boasts a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, supplemented by a starter-generator electric motor and a traction motor, which together contribute an additional 178 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque. The combined output reaches 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.

There is potential for adjustments, such as a larger battery pack for the Gladiator’s longer wheelbase or optimizations to the existing 17.3 kWh battery unit, which provides the Wrangler PHEV with 22 miles of all-electric range—the same capacity found in the Grand Cherokee 4xe.

The charging port is likely to be located on the vehicle’s left side, with blue tow hooks, decals, and interior stitching, mirroring the Wrangler 4xe. It remains uncertain whether a base model with cloth upholstery will be available, or if it will feature solely higher-end finishes.

The Gladiator, while similar to the Wrangler, features a rear similar to the Ram 1500, enhancing its capabilities and price. It’s possible that the Gladiator could integrate the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine from the 1500, potentially exceeding the Wrangler PHEV’s 3,500-lb towing capacity. Details on any new configurations remain forthcoming as more information is expected from Jeep.
