Unveiling DAL-e: Hyundai & Kia's Next-Gen Robot for Seamless Indoor Deliveries

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have officially revealed the newly designed DAL-e Delivery robot, setting a new standard in the domain of indoor autonomous delivery services. The unveiling, accompanied by images and a video clip, showcases the robot’s advanced design and state-of-the-art technologies, including autonomous driving and facial recognition capabilities. With its debut slated for the second quarter at IGIS Asset Management’s 'Factorial Seongsu' in Seoul, the DAL-e Delivery robot is poised to revolutionize the delivery of food and beverages (F&B) and parcels in complex indoor settings like offices and malls.

The DAL-e Delivery robot’s design is centered around Plug & Drive (PnD) modules, enhancing its delivery performance, especially in challenging environments. Achieving a top speed of 1.2 m/s, the robot can smoothly navigate obstacles and maneuver through tight spaces, thanks to its compact design and advanced autonomous driving technology. Its sophisticated suspension system ensures stable transportation of items, including up to 16 cups of coffee or items weighing as much as 10 kg.

Developed by Hyundai Motor and Kia’s Robotics Lab and certified by the Korea Internet and Security Agency, the robot’s facial recognition technology guarantees secure and efficient delivery by identifying recipients without the need for passwords. This feature highlights the robot’s technological sophistication and commitment to enhancing customer convenience and safety.

DAL-e Delivery’s autonomous driving capability allows it to navigate efficiently within buildings, integrating seamlessly with elevator and door control systems to deliver items promptly. Its design focuses on driving stability, featuring a square column shape with rounded corners and a low center of gravity. The sleek, premium aesthetic is complemented by integrated sensors and a metal-like finish.

The robot is equipped with an 11.6-inch high-resolution display that clearly shows the service status, destination, and operation status, making it easy for users and bystanders to understand the robot’s activities. Animated facial expressions on the screen further enhance user engagement and add a touch of warmth to the high-tech delivery service.

The deployment of DAL-e Delivery at 'Factorial Seongsu,' a smart office building in Seoul, represents a strategic collaboration between Hyundai Motor, Kia, and IGIS Asset Management. This partnership underscores the commitment of Hyundai Motor and Kia to pioneering robotic-friendly infrastructure and services, marking a significant milestone in commercializing indoor autonomous delivery robots.

As Hyundai Motor and Kia continue to push the boundaries of robotics and autonomous technologies, the DAL-e Delivery robot stands as a testament to their innovation and vision for a future where robotic delivery services enhance efficiency and convenience in various settings.
