The Chevrolet Trax, a compact SUV by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand, has evolved significantly since its debut. Initially launched in 2013, it was targeted at providing a small, entry-level crossover option in Chevrolet’s lineup. The vehicle quickly gained traction in various global markets, including significant exports from South Korea between 2016 and 2018. Its introduction to the U.S. market came in 2015, following the success of its platform-sharing cousin, the Buick Encore. The U.S. version featured a 1.4L turbocharged engine and came with modern connectivity features like OnStar with AT&T 4G LTE and SiriusXM satellite radio, available in LS, LT, and LTZ trims.

The Trax underwent a refresh in 2017, adopting design cues from Chevrolet’s Malibu and Volt, which included new lighting elements, grille design, and a redesigned interior, enhancing its perceived quality. This refresh aimed to keep the Trax competitive in the rapidly growing compact SUV segment.

The latest iteration, the 2024 Chevrolet Trax, marks a significant departure from its predecessors in terms of design, features, and performance. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine across all trim levels, ensuring a consistent driving experience. The vehicle’s interior is noted for its spaciousness, with a roomy cabin and a low dashboard that ensures expansive visibility. The 2024 model also includes modern tech features such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with an 11.0-inch central touchscreen in higher trims.

Despite its affordability, the new Trax doesn’t compromise on ride quality. It offers a comfortable and well-isolated ride, with active noise cancellation included across all trims. The longer wheelbase contributes to its stability and comfort, even though the fuel economy may fall short of expectations. The Trax manages to balance cost-saving measures with a design and feature set that doesn’t feel cheap, making it a strong contender in the budget-friendly compact SUV category.
