Polestar, a Swedish automotive brand with Chinese ownership, has introduced its latest offering in the electric vehicle (EV) market—the Polestar 3. This model is poised to compete with established luxury brands such as Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. As Polestar’s first SUV, the Polestar 3 marks a significant step for the brand, aiming to capture the attention of premium SUV buyers.

Design and Aesthetics

The Polestar 3 stands out with its sleek, aerodynamic design, featuring a low roofline and a distinctive EV nose that replaces the traditional grille. The designers have focused on creating a visually appealing and functional vehicle that emphasizes both style and efficiency. The interior, made largely from recycled materials, boasts a spacious, tech-forward cabin that offers a premium feel without being overly flashy. The SUV’s low stance and clean lines make it a visually striking alternative in the crowded EV market.

Performance and Specifications

Built on the SPA2 platform shared with the upcoming Volvo EX90, the Polestar 3 comes in two dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants. The base model produces 489 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque, achieving 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds. The Performance Pack variant boosts power to 517 horsepower and 671 lb-ft of torque, with a slightly quicker 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds. Both versions feature a 107 kWh battery pack, providing an estimated range of 300 miles for the base model and 270 miles for the performance variant.

The Polestar 3 is equipped with advanced driving dynamics, including torque vectoring via brakes for the rear axle, air suspension, and adaptive systems to enhance the driving experience. Despite its considerable weight of nearly 5,900 lbs, the Polestar 3 aims to deliver a nimble and engaging drive.

Sustainability and Safety

Polestar has emphasized sustainability in the Polestar 3, using recycled materials throughout the interior and focusing on minimizing the vehicle’s environmental impact. The SUV is designed with a keen awareness of its carbon footprint, aligning with Polestar’s commitment to eco-conscious manufacturing.

Safety is another key focus, with the Polestar 3 featuring a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety systems. It includes up to ten airbags, advanced driver assistance features, and robust crash protection, making it a secure choice for families and individuals alike.

Market Position and Pricing

The Polestar 3 enters the market at a competitive price point, starting around $74,800 for the base model and $80,800 for the Performance Pack variant. This positions it as a premium offering that challenges rivals like the Audi Q8 e-tron, BMW iX, and Mercedes EQE SUV.

While the Polestar brand may still be building its reputation, the Polestar 3’s combination of design, performance, sustainability, and safety makes it a compelling option in the luxury EV segment. As Polestar continues to expand its lineup and market presence, the Polestar 3 represents a significant step forward in its quest to become a leading name in the electric vehicle industry.
