Massive Triple Recall for Toyota and Lexus Vehicles
Toyota and Lexus initiate three recalls for over 300,000 cars due to safety issues, including faulty head restraints and rearview cameras.
Toyota and Lexus are addressing issues in over 300,000 vehicles through three distinct recalls, targeting models like the Camry, Tundra, Sequoia, Mirai, and various Lexus models including the ES, LS, LC, and LX.
Toyota, the global automotive giant, seems to be in a recurring cycle of issuing recalls, with last year alone witnessing at least 10 instances. In a recent development, Toyota, in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), has consolidated three separate recalls into a single announcement, aiming for a more streamlined rectification process.
The first recall involves 4,212 Camrys from the 2023 and 2024 model years, where the head restraint brackets for the center and right-hand-side rear seats may have been improperly welded, posing a risk of inadequate support in the event of an impact. Toyota plans to address this by replacing the faulty component of the backrest.
The second recall concerns a malfunctioning rearview camera due to incorrect programming of the park-assist system’s ECU in vehicles equipped with the Panoramic View Monitor. This affects the 2023 Mirai, 2023-2024 Lexus ES, 2023 Lexus LS, and 2024 Lexus LC, totaling 18,616 units that require a dealership visit for a software update.
The third and most extensive recall, previously announced in February, affects nearly 281,000 Tundra and Lexus LX600 models from 2022-2024, as well as the 2023-2024 Sequoia. The issue lies in the transmission design, which could allow unintended movement even when shifted into Neutral under specific conditions. A software adjustment is proposed as the solution for this problem, impacting 280,663 vehicles.
