Toyota plans a $531.7 million investment to expand its San Antonio assembly plant, creating 411 new jobs with an average annual salary of $68,245. Bexar County supports the project with significant tax abatements and grants.

Toyota plans to invest up to $531.7 million into its body-on-frame assembly complex near San Antonio, Texas. This significant investment aims to build a new facility and expand the existing plant to over 500,000 square feet. The expansion is expected to create 411 new jobs, offering a base hourly wage of $20.54 and an average annual salary of $68,245.

Documents prepared for County Commissioners reveal the investment details, and local commissioners have voted in favor of the proposal, allowing discussions to proceed. Bexar County is offering several incentives, including a 10-year, 100% tax abatement valued at $14.7 million and a skill development grant of up to $250,000 for jobs paying at least $34.55 an hour.

Toyota spokeswoman Kelly Stefanich confirmed the company’s plans to seek tax abatements for the $531.7 million project. She emphasized Toyota’s ongoing efforts to evaluate competitiveness and support potential investments across North American operations to ensure long-term employment stability.

County Judge Peter Sakai, who recently visited Japan with other county leaders to meet businesses involved in advanced manufacturing, expressed optimism about the new investments. He highlighted the importance of job creation and economic growth, noting Toyota’s role as a trusted corporate partner in the community.
