Ford Announces Recall for 2022-2024 Maverick Models
Ford recalls 2022-2024 Mavericks due to a BCM fault risking tail light failure, following other recent recalls. No related accidents reported yet.
Ford has issued a recall for its 2022-2024 Maverick models due to a potential issue with the Body Control Module (BCM), which may inadvertently disable one or both rear tail lights. This recall comes shortly after a previous recall involving nearly half a million Mavericks and Bronco Sports, related to a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) fault that could cause a loss of vehicle power while driving.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has noted that approximately 242,669 vehicles could be affected by the BCM issue. Ford plans to address this by updating the BCM software at no cost to vehicle owners. The problematic module has reportedly been in use since early 2021, around the time the Maverick was first introduced. Owners are encouraged to contact their local Ford dealers for repairs, referencing recall number 24S24. Ford’s customer service can also be reached at 1-866-436-7332.
Although no accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with this specific recall, the risk remains significant due to the safety importance of functioning tail lights, especially in low visibility conditions. This issue is part of a larger pattern of recalls for Ford, which led all manufacturers with 58 recalls in 2023, representing 16% of all recalls issued.
Ford has also recently announced recalls for other models, including the Bronco Sport, over 2 million Explorers due to potentially faulty roof racks, and certain F-150 models with the Max Trailer package prone to rollaway. Additionally, an investigation by NHTSA is underway regarding two fatalities linked to the use of Ford’s BlueCruise in Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles.
Despite these challenges, Ford has been proactive in acknowledging and addressing these issues in collaboration with NHTSA, striving to improve its quality controls and safety measures.
