Hyundai Motor Group shines in the 2024 IIHS safety awards, earning the most TSP and TSP+ recognitions across Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands, reinforcing its safety leadership.

Hyundai Motor Group is proud to announce that it has received the highest number of accolades in this year’s Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) awards, with 16 of its models from Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands being recognized with the esteemed IIHS 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) and TSP+ awards. This achievement underscores the Group’s commitment to safety and its role as a leader in the automotive industry, with the highest combined number of TSP and TSP+ awards.

The Group’s outstanding performance in the IIHS 2024 evaluations reflects its dedication to prioritizing safety. With a total of 10 TSP and six TSP+ awards among its Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands, the Group has demonstrated its leadership in safety and its ongoing efforts to ensure the highest safety standards for both vehicle occupants and other road users.

Brian Latouf, the Global Chief Safety and Quality Officer at Hyundai Motor Group, expressed his pride in the Group’s leadership position in the IIHS 2024 TSP/TSP+ awards. He emphasized Hyundai’s foundational commitment to safety, which is evident in the superior safety accolades awarded to 16 of their products.

In the competition, Hyundai Motor and Genesis both secured second place overall, with Hyundai receiving seven awards (including two TSP+ and five TSP) and Genesis also receiving seven awards (with three TSP+ and four TSP). Kia was recognized with two awards (one TSP+ and one TSP), highlighting the exceptional safety features of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles.

Specifically, Hyundai’s TSP+ awards were given to the KONA small SUV and IONIQ 6 midsize electric car, while Genesis’s TSP+ awards were bestowed upon the Electrified G80 luxury car, the GV60 small SUV, and the GV80 midsize luxury SUV. Kia’s TELLURIDE midsize SUV earned a TSP+ award, underscoring the brand’s commitment to safety.

To be eligible for a TSP award, vehicles must achieve good ratings in various crashworthiness tests, including the small overlap front and side impact tests. The more prestigious TSP+ award requires good ratings in these tests plus an acceptable or good rating in the updated moderate front crash test, along with effective pedestrian crash prevention and well-rated headlights across all trims.

The IIHS has updated its criteria for the 2024 awards to emphasize rear seat passenger protection and pedestrian crash avoidance, including a new moderate front overlap test with an additional dummy to assess rear seat safety. This change aims to further enhance vehicle safety standards.

Brian Latouf acknowledged the IIHS’s more stringent requirements for the 2024 TSP/TSP+ awards, emphasizing Hyundai Motor Group’s commitment to meeting these higher standards to ensure maximum protection for customers and pedestrians, reiterating safety as a core priority for the company.
