Stellantis is recalling 211,581 Dodge and Ram vehicles, including the 2022 Durango, Ram 2500, and Ram 3500, due to a potential malfunction in the ABS control module.

Stellantis has announced a recall affecting over 211,000 Dodge and Ram vehicles, including the 2022 model year Dodge Durango, Ram 2500, and Ram 3500. The recall, documented by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), highlights a potential malfunction in the anti-lock braking system (ABS) control module. A faulty ABS module can lead to diminished braking performance and impaired stability control, increasing the risk of a crash. The issue is identified as software-related, necessitating a recall to address the problem.

The recall impacts 211,581 vehicles manufactured between April 2021 and December 2022. The Ram 2500 pickup is the most affected, with 157,890 units included in the recall. The Dodge Durango accounts for 53,167 affected vehicles, while the Ram 3500 has 524 affected units. Additionally, 17,462 vehicles are affected in Canada, 2,313 in Mexico, and another 5,023 in markets outside of North America.

Owners can resolve the issue with a simple software update available at their local dealerships, free of charge. Recall notices are scheduled to be sent out late next month. In the meantime, owners can check the NHTSA recall site to determine if their vehicle is at risk.

Recalls are common in the automotive industry. Recently, nearly half a million Kia Telluride SUVs were recalled due to a potential fire hazard, and some manual Ford Mustangs faced a clutch issue that could also lead to a fire. While recalls often indicate proactive safety measures, they underline the importance of addressing critical safety features promptly.
