Jeep Targets 50% Increase in Plug-In Hybrid Sales for 2024
Jeep plans to sell up to 170,000 plug-in hybrids in the U.S. in 2024, up from 113,113 last year. New models like the Gladiator 4xe and hybrid Wagoneer versions are set to boost sales.
Jeep already leads the U.S. market in plug-in hybrid sales, but the brand is aiming even higher. Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa told CNBC that the company plans to sell between 160,000 and 170,000 plug-in hybrids in the United States in 2024, a significant increase from the 113,113 units sold last year.
The popularity of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xe models has spurred plans for additional eco-friendly variants. A Gladiator 4xe is set to launch in 2025, featuring a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and an electric motor. This configuration will offer a combined output of 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, with an electric-only range of 21 miles.
Additionally, Jeep is developing 4xe versions of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, expected to debut in 2025. These models will likely utilize a range-extended powertrain inspired by the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, which includes a 92 kWh battery pack, a 3.6-liter V6 engine, and a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, producing 663 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque. This setup provides a range of up to 690 miles.
Jeep isn’t limiting its focus to plug-in hybrids and EVs. The brand is also considering traditional hybrids, with reports suggesting a hybrid powertrain might be included in the redesigned Cherokee. This strategy aims to broaden Jeep’s appeal and meet increasing consumer demand for electrified vehicles.
