Upcoming BMW M5 Sedan: A Closer Look at the New Design

Our latest spy shots reveal the upcoming BMW M5 sedan with significantly less camouflage, offering a clearer glimpse at its refined design. The anticipation for the new M5 is heightened with the prospect of a wagon version also making its debut soon. The sedan, likely to be more readily available than the wagon, remains the staple of BMW’s performance lineup.

The M5 was last spotted in June 2023 during tests at the Nürburgring, heavily disguised yet impressively dynamic on the track. Now, as it nears its official unveiling, the prototype sports less covering, especially on the doors, suggesting minimal changes in this area. We’re focusing primarily on the front where subtle design modifications are visible, including a sleeker lower fascia with large air vents and a discreet splitter.

Typical of the M5 lineage, this iteration maintains an understated executive aesthetic, with enhancements that respect its high-performance heritage without becoming ostentatious. Notable features include vents that align with those on the standard 5 Series and a familiar headlight design. The kidney grille, while slightly modified, keeps its traditional shape, seamlessly integrating with the car’s hood.

Along the sides, the M5 showcases blue brake calipers behind slotted rotors, with only slight fender expansions. At the rear, the camouflage hides a prominent diffuser and dual exhaust tips, suggesting a more aggressive back end compared to the regular 5 Series, drawing some stylistic cues from the 7 Series.

Inside, the new M5 is rumored to be a powerhouse, potentially equipped with a plug-in hybrid system delivering over 700 horsepower and an electric-only range of around 43 miles. This setup aims to blend exceptional performance with increased efficiency, marking it as the most powerful—and environmentally conscious—M5 to date.

Both the sedan and its wagon counterpart are expected to be unveiled simultaneously in mid-summer, with the sedan hitting the market first to sustain excitement throughout the year. While typical color options will be available, BMW might also introduce one or two exclusive paint colors to complement the M5’s dynamic capabilities.
