The iconic Audi R8 concludes its journey with a special Performance Edition, destined for Audi’s museum, as the brand accelerates towards electrification.

The Audi R8, after a series of tributes and special editions, has concluded its production run with the last unit leaving the Bollinger Hofe plant, as reported by Top Gear. This final piece, a Performance Edition clad in Vegas Yellow with bronze 20-inch alloys and a carbon exterior package, will not see road use but will instead reside in Audi’s Tradition museum in Ingolstadt, Germany.

The delay in the production of this final model, originally confirmed to end in 2022, could be attributed to production challenges at the Bollinger Hofe facility, which is also responsible for the e-tron GT and the upcoming RS6 Avant GT.

As Audi moves towards electrification, it has released several tributes to the R8, including a «best-of» video titled «The Last Lap» and a very limited Final Edition in Japan, marking the end of an era for the iconic supercar. Despite speculation, there’s no official word on the R8 returning as an electric vehicle, especially given Lamborghini’s decision not to share its hybrid technology with Audi at this stage.

Audi’s commitment to an all-electric lineup within the next decade remains firm, with plans for the A5, Q5, and A6 e-tron models already announced. However, the R8 does not seem to be part of this electrified future.
