Venom F5 Revolution Tops COTA Speed Chart with Record Lap
The Venom F5 Revolution by Hennessey shattered the Circuit of the Americas lap record, outpacing the Czinger 21C and marking a significant milestone in supercar performance.
The Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution outpaced the Czinger 21C at the Circuit of the Americas by 0.43 seconds, reaching speeds of up to 193 mph on the track’s fastest section.
Hennessey, a Texas-based company, has reclaimed the lap record at its local Circuit of the Americas in Austin with its Venom F5 Revolution, overcoming the challenge posed by a competing supercar brand’s previous record. The Venom F5 Revolution, equipped with street-legal yet track-optimized Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, completed a lap in 2:10.90, narrowly beating the Czinger 21C’s record of 2:11.33 by 0.43 seconds. This achievement highlights the significant advancements in supercar technology over the last decade, with the F5 also finishing nearly 7 seconds quicker than the esteemed McLaren P1 hybrid, which had a previous best of 2:17.12 seconds on the 3.41-mile (5.5 km) track.
Powered by a 1,817 hp (1,842 PS), 6.6-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine, the F5 achieved top speeds of 193 mph (311 kmh) on the track’s fastest stretches. David Donohue, a former Le Mans class champion and the car’s driver, experienced up to 1.59g of lateral force during cornering and 1.61g when fully utilizing the carbon ceramic Brembo brakes.
While the Revolution variant of the Venom F5 maintains the same power as the standard model, it boasts several modifications to its chassis and aerodynamics that enhance its track performance. These modifications, overseen by Brian Jones, a former chief engineer for the AMG One who now works with Hennessey, include a full-width carbon rear wing, an enlarged splitter and rear diffuser, refined suspension tuning, and better cooling for the standard Venom F5 coupe.
With the standard coupe sold out, Hennessey is hopeful that setting the new lap record will attract more buyers for the remaining build slots of the Venom F5 Roadster and Revolution models. The company, located about 100 miles (160 km) from the Circuit of the Americas, is also planning to make headlines later in the year by attempting to push the F5 past the 300 mph (483 kmh) mark.
Previously, a non-Revolution Venom F5 surpassed 270 mph (435 kmh) during tests at the former NASA Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida. Hennessey is now in search of an adequately long runway or public road to attempt breaking the 304.8 mph (490.5 kmh) speed record set by the Bugatti Chiron SuperSport 300+ in 2019.
