Audi Launches Revolutionary Q6 e-tron on New PPE Platform
Audi's Q6 e-tron debuts with cutting-edge PPE and E³ 1.2 architecture, heralding a new era in electric mobility and design innovation.
Audi has taken a significant step in reinforcing its leadership in the realm of connected and fully electric premium mobility with the launch of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) and the new E3 1.2 electronic architecture. This development, achieved in collaboration with Porsche and CARIAD, signifies a pivotal expansion of Audi’s global electric vehicle lineup and marks the commencement of the largest product initiative in the company’s history. The introduction of the Audi Q6 e-tron, the brand’s inaugural production model built on the PPE platform, is designed expressly for battery electric vehicles, underscoring Audi’s commitment to electric premium mobility.
Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, highlighted the significance of the PPE and the Audi Q6 e-tron series at the world premiere in Ingolstadt. Döllner emphasized that the PPE platform exemplifies the collaborative efforts within the Volkswagen Group to scale electric mobility, allowing Audi to introduce advanced models across various segments and further electrify its portfolio. The flexibility of the PPE is crucial for ensuring that future models retain Audi’s unique character alongside the brand’s DNA.
The technical components of the PPE were meticulously developed to meet the specific needs of battery electric vehicles, featuring a modular design that maximizes the advantages of electric mobility. The Audi Q6 e-tron, as the first series to utilize the PPE, sets new standards in efficiency, range, charging speed, and design. Notable features include the 800-volt architecture, potent electric motors, and an advanced battery and charging management system, providing substantial benefits in design, weight, and efficiency due to the platform’s accommodation for both high-floor and flat-floor models.
In line with its dedication to vertical integration, Audi’s Ingolstadt headquarters has inaugurated its own battery assembly facility, marking the first instance of a fully electric model being produced in Ingolstadt. This development not only enhances the manufacturing capabilities at the site but also brings crucial expertise to the location, as pointed out by Gerd Walker, Member of the Board of Management for Production and Logistics. The establishment of the battery assembly facility is a testament to Audi’s commitment to the transformation towards electric mobility, supported by the continuous qualification and professional reinvention of Audi employees.
The launch of the Audi Q6 e-tron series in Ingolstadt is part of Audi’s broader strategy to offer electric models in all core segments by 2027. This approach underscores Audi’s commitment to sustainability and its dedication to renewing from within, leveraging existing facilities for the transition to electric mobility. The introduction of the Q6 e-tron series is a clear indication of Audi’s promise to innovate and lead in the electric mobility space, offering a glimpse into the future of premium electric vehicles.
