The New Era: BMW 5 Series Touring Goes Electric

BMW has unveiled the sixth generation of its 5 Series Touring, marking a new era in the premium upper mid-range segment. The latest model boasts a blend of sporty elegance, cutting-edge digital innovations, and a strong focus on sustainability throughout its lifecycle. For the first time, the series includes an all-electric model, the BMW i5 Touring, alongside highly efficient petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid variants, all produced at the BMW Group's Dingolfing plant. The vehicle will roll out in Germany, various European countries, and Japan starting May 2024, with other markets to follow in June.
The new 5 Series Touring features dynamically stretched proportions, a modern interpretation of BMW's hallmark twin headlights and grille, and a range of paintwork that includes three BMW Individual finishes. Its design emphasizes spacious comfort and versatility, ideal for both everyday driving and longer journeys.
Inside, the BMW 5 Series Touring introduces a fully vegan interior as standard, with the option for BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery. The driver-oriented cockpit is centered around the BMW Curved Display, enhancing the modern premium ambiance. The vehicle also offers improved space, optimized acoustic comfort, and a luggage compartment volume expandable up to 1,700 litres.
The all-electric BMW i5 Touring will be available in two versions, featuring innovative charging solutions and a high-voltage battery that supports long-distance travel with a range of up to 560 kilometres (348 miles) according to WLTP. Diesel engines now come with 48-volt mild hybrid technology, promising efficient performance.
BMW has not compromised on driving pleasure, ensuring an ideal balance between sportiness and comfort. The vehicle includes sport steering, directly controlled wheel slip limitation, and rear-axle air suspension with automatic self-levelling for the electric and plug-in hybrid models.
Advanced automated driving and parking systems offer semi-automated functions, including the optional Driving Assistant Professional and Parking Assistant Professional, enhancing safety and convenience.
The new BMW iDrive system, based on Operating System 8.5, introduces "QuickSelect", video streaming, and in-car gaming with AirConsole, alongside optimized smartphone integration and the capability for Remote Software Upgrades, ensuring the vehicle remains cutting-edge.
