Insiders reveal spied ’Q9′ prototypes are actually the next-gen Audi Q7, sporting significant design updates and cutting-edge tech.

The automotive world is buzzing with the news from Ingolstadt, where «reliable sources» have stirred the pot by suggesting that the so-called ’Q9′ prototypes, spotted during testing, are in fact the next iteration of the Q7. This revelation aligns well with observations noting the prototypes’ dimensions closely mirroring those of the current Q7 model.

Amidst Audi’s silence, a prototype caught during winter trials in Europe has raised eyebrows. Although shrouded in heavy camouflage, the changes seem more profound than a mere facelift, which was unveiled just a few weeks prior.

The spied crossover presents a redefined front grille that’s both shorter and broader, set off by a unique pattern. The vehicle is also adorned with split lighting units, an enlarged lower air intake featuring a honeycomb mesh design, and a sleeker overall silhouette complemented by flush door handles. The design evolves further with a smoother shoulder line and a redesigned third-quarter glass, possibly taking inspiration from the Q6 e-tron.

At the rear, the design evolution continues with an updated bumper and a conventional liftgate design, coupled with a dual exhaust setup and placeholder taillights that taper off at the corners.

While the interior remains largely a mystery, speculations suggest it might borrow elements from the upcoming Q6 e-tron, possibly featuring an 11.9-inch digital dashboard and a 14.5-inch central infotainment display, with an additional 10.9-inch screen for the front passenger being a potential inclusion.

Details about the powertrain options remain vague, but expectations lean towards a range comprising petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid variants, including a sporty S model. More information is anticipated as the launch date approaches, with the reimagined Q7 possibly making its debut next year as a 2026 model.
